Columnist Asa Aarons has launched a new site that aggregates many of the answers he’s provided to readers of publications like the NY Daily News.
His advice ranges across a diverse array of categories, but it includes some pearls of digital wisdom including a discussion of online storage solutions as critical to any disaster planning. Naturally, he identifies ElephantDrive a great option in his post entitled “Planning for disaster means focusing on essentials.”
Thanks to Noreen for alerting us!

Hi everyone,
I’m writing to report and explain a limited incident this morning that affected a small subset of users. One of our application server pools did not complete its regularly scheduled maintenance on time and was prematurely opened for new connections. As a result, the new users directed to this pool were not able to register successfully, and returning users experienced significant delays (up to 1 min) at login.
No data was affected and no transfers were affected, and all has returned to normal.
A combination of vigilant reporting, experienced design and architecture, and good fortune has allowed us to avoid most issues (even narrowly contained incidents such as this one), but we think it is important to report them to our user base when we do experience a problem.
Please let us know if you see any other issues and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

We just learned about a very cool feature at Dell called Ideastorm. This is a community site where Dell customers (or anyone, apparently) can post suggestions for ways to improve Dell’s products, processes, etc…
We learned about it when one of our users wrote in and informed me that he made a suggestion that Dell pre-install ElephantDrive on laptops and desktops. The user actually suggested ElephantDrive or something like it, but it’s great that he had us in mind.
We’d like to encourage everyone to use this site, both to promote the suggestion above, but also to use a great service.
Nice work Dell.

We hope he’s able to get his data back, but a friend of the ElephantDrive recently had a digital disaster. The culprit in this instance with a Linksys NAS device. Even though we’ve made leaps and bounds in improving the technology that stores data - making it faster, smaller, and denser - we still haven’t made them much more reliable. That’s why it is so important to use a service like ElephantDrive to protect your priceless digital assets.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could get your external drive or NAS device with ElephantDrive pre-installed?

Intel blogger Gina Bovara published a quick run down on some of the Let Me Be Mobile partners and their applications. Naturally, ElephantDrive’s storage virtualization services were included. She also hit on Jajah’s telephony app and Talkhouse’s nifty voice recognition software.
Check out the full post here.
