Cyclists use ElephantDrive on their trek…

August 15, 2008

We’ve been following the journey of Harry Kikstra – an accomplished adventurer, climber, biker and speaker – as he travels by bicycle from Northern Alaska to Southern Argentina. He’s taking this ambitious trip in part because of his insatiable desire for outdoors challenge, but also to bring awareness to the green causes he supports.

While on this trek, Harry is using ElephantDrive to keep an archive of his pictures and videos, and to access his important files whenever he gets to connect. He posts about why ElephantDrive is a great tool for travelers on his blog. We obviously agree.

GigaOm discusses successes and failures in the online storage space

August 11, 2008

Om Malik of GigaOm has posted two interested entries recently – the first chronicled the recent failures in the online storage space and posed some interesting questions about what is really viable. The ultimate question was how to stand out as a storage service.

After receiving some comments from interested parties, he followed up with a post showing the other side of the coin. He highlighted one company in particular that was growing fast and turning a profit (though would not discuss the profit levels).

Despite being a strong indication of the viability of the market, the second post did not address differentiation. At ElephantDrive, we work to provide not only secure and reliable online backup, but also simple, fast access to your data from anywhere in the world in real time. We’ve also layered in some easy to use and valuable tools like secure sharing. This combination of functionality makes a real difference and positions ElephantDrive as a compelling, differentiated offer among the online storage solutions.

ElephantDrive featured in best practices for SaaS consumption

August 9, 2008

ElephantDrive’s sophisticated management of storage-as-a-service makes it a great example for any firm looking to consume a SaaS offering as part of its production network. Some of the lessons learned were highlighted in Rick Cook’s recent piece for InsideCRM. The article, titled “When On-Demand Isn’t: Surviving a Hosted-CRM Failure,” details ElephantDrive’s prolific use of Amazon’s S3 storage but also explains the ability of the system to handle an outage with minimal impact to users.

The article goes on to discuss other companies’ efforts to construct robust, reliable systems leveraging SaaS with varying degrees of success.

New awards and praise for ElephantDrive

August 7, 2008

Third party review sites have recently been signaling their appreciation for our service.

The team of technology experts at Softpedia recently reviewed our online backup for Mac software and awarded the program its “100% Clean” certification.

It’s great to be recognized for the security and integrity of our program.

Also, we’re moving up the ranks at BackupReview.info. They also covered the launch of our Mac support, but we were more excited to be included in their broader review of the available solutions. After the took a look at us in June, we were added to their list of the top 25 online backup solutions – in just one month, we’ve moved up three spots! That’s largely thanks to your support and feedback. Our users deserve the credit here – thanks for continuing to provide us with comments, criticism, and praise so we know how to best improve the ElephantDrive service.
