We apologize for the delay – as some of you are already aware, we began our maintenance efforts behind schedule. Because the performance upgrades are substantial, our engineering team felt it was appropriate to forge ahead even with the new timeline.
As is already reflected at the website, we currently anticipate completion within the next two and half hours.
Originally Scheduled Window: 2:45 pm PST – 10:45 pm PST

We often receive stories from our users regarding their near-experiences with massive data loss, but we also get plenty of anecdotes from individuals who are coming to us after the fact (they’ve lost data and are now committed to never allow that to happen again).
One of our subscribers alerted us today to an essay in the New York Times Magazine by writer Virginia Heffernan titled “The Great Crash.” It tells the story of the writer’s own challenging experience with a hard drive gone bad. While all these stories are sad, Herrernan’s piece is also a well-written and poignant exploration of feelings one has when confronted with the loss of priceless memories and creative work – much of which is digital these days.
Please enjoy the essay. And please don’t let it happen to you.
Use ElephantDrive – or use another service – but take some quick and easy steps to protect yourself from a problem that you know, sooner or later, is coming…

We just wanted to let you know that this evening’s upgrade and performance tests are now complete. We exceed our target window by 22 minutes, so we apologize to those users who saw any performance degradation or availability gaps during the scheduled time slot or beyond – thanks so much for your patience during this process.
In our ongoing effort to provide you with the premium online storage offering on the web, today we are performing a set of maintenance and upgrade procedures on our networking infrastructure.
You may experience temporary access issues from 10:00 pm PST 2009-06-09 until 1:00 am PST 2009-06-10, but please be aware that all data is safe and secure.
As always, please contact us at support@elephantdrive.com with any questions.
Thanks as always for your patience with our engineers. We were able to perform our system upgrades and bring back our US West facilities, although it took a little longer than we had hoped.
In our ongoing effort to provide you with the premium online storage offering on the web, today we are performing routine maintenance on our infrastructure. This will cause the US West facility to have intermittent periods of nonavailability.
As always, please contact us at support@elephantdrive.com with any questions.
We’ve spent a long time talking to many of you about what users want and need out of this platform, spent late nights debating at the whiteboards, and countless hours developing and testing… The latest release includes a number of major bug fixes and feature upgrades, including more intelligent client-side differentiation, a more inituitive UI, and a more local resource friendly agent.
Our goal is to strike a balance between the fastest performance hashing, encrypting, and transferring your files with a client platform that is respectful of its utilization of your available connectivity, CPU, and memory.
In accordance with ElephantDrive company policy, we are notifying our users of the following:
This morning at around 10 AM PST, an edge router configuration error at our west coast datacenter caused a full shutdown of access to that facility. No data was lost during this period of time, but users from the western United States and Asia-PAC were unable to upload new data.
The configuration error was corrected at approximately 11:30 AM PST. Please feel free to comment here or contact support@elephantdrive.com if you require further information or assistance.
Our collaboration with Netgear is drawing some pretty serious attention. The Governor of California and the leader of Germany both toured the CeBIT conference and were intrigued by the ElephantDrive-powered ReadyNAS Vault, prompting the inevitable “I’ll be back-up“ headline.
We’re excited that the Netgear execs chose the Vault to show off to Schwartzenagger and Merkel. Hopefully California and Germany will both become customers!
